Not updated my blog in a while so thought i’d post some of the current images i’m working which are both at early stages with plenty of proportional and various other mistakes at the moment. The first is Antony for my FMP and the other based on Chiaroscuro based composition for this months ImagineFX community competition.

So here’s how i created my Pocky advertisement along with the final version of the piece. I’ll begin with were i gained my ideas from and for this piece i mainly took inspiration from James Whale’s 1931 Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein (1935). Boris Karloff is the most well known interpretation of Frankensteins monster and i really felt as though it was most fitting to use for an advertisement since its widely recognised. I also based Dr. Frankenstein on Colin Clive since i wasn’t too keen on doing a stereotypical mad scientist and his looks are far more interesting in my opinion. Along with replacing the assistant on the brief with Frankensteins bride to add some variation in sexes and she’s an interesting looking character too.

So with the layout already done for us pretty much i set out drawing a few small changes that wouldn’t break the guidelines of the brief and settled on one. I decided i wanted to give it an interesting and attention grabbing colour palette. So i searched around for the posters for the film amongst other such styles like pulp book cover designs. Going for a oranges and blues in the end.

Now from my last post i made some changes to the text and other smaller changes like creating the border and other effects to give it that old print feel. Overall i’m quite happy with it.

Here’s the final image.

So our latest project was based around a short story of an evil woman who wants to eat a kid and long story short everyone doesn’t want her to eat their kids but she finds one on his own and she eats him and turns out its her own kid.

I began by choosing a possible time period or theme for my pieces and poverty stricken area’s of Victorian London sprung to mind when i was reading the story since it was a dark a gloomy place. Along with the fashion at the time it seemed really fitting for this dark tale.

What intrigued me the most was that it mentioned in the story she becomes haggard after not finding a child to eat and refusing to eat anything else. So i thought my first image would be based on her being an old crone walking the empty streets of London searching for a child.

Here’s some thumbnails i conjured.

Here’s a little update as to were i am with my characters. I decided i’d base one on one of my favourite games of all time and partly because of its unique art direction. Since there isn’t any female characters in the game and i haven’t created one for my group of characters i thought i’d try turn the Demoman into the Demowoman. Actually a lot of fun and if i ever get the time i may try create the rest.

Here’s an early version of it so far..
